So what of all this do we own, personally?  A fair question.  Obviously, choices were made based on products available at the time, but here’s what we love and live with, in a couple broad categories:

  • Phil & Ted’s MeToo! Travel Highchair (2) attached to our kitchen island – no traditional high chair per se
  • Baby Bjorn booster seat (1) for toddling at the table
  • An assortment of baby bottles, rarely used due to SAHM nursing; reco glass bottles due to concern over phthalates etc in plastic
  • Baby Cubes for freezing baby food in convenient single servings
  • Kipiis Bib Clips
  • An assortment of over-the-head tee-shirt-style bibs for soft washable full-torso coverage our toddler can put on (and take off) by herself
  • Crocodile Creek plastic placemats
  • Green to Grow divided food plate (corn plastic – hand wash only but a nice alternative to regular)
  • Playtex Sipster and Lil’ Gripper Straw cups (BPA-Free)
  • Earth’s Best baby rice and multigrain cereals
  • YoBaby yogurt or Nancy’s yogurt with a squirt of agave nectar
  • Medela PumpInStyle

  • Baby #1 got Stanley Furniture – Contentment Crib (convertible) + Dresser with Changing Top (learned my lesson about buying white furniture – DO NOT unless you enjoy the distressed look or are especially good at painting touch-ups – especially from belt buckles at the changing table.)
  • Baby #2 got Oeuf Sparrow Crib + IKEA Malm series dresser in birch (see? learned my lesson, above)
  • Aden + Anaïs muslin swaddling cloths – register these!!! big and stretchy, easily doubled for colder months, breathe nicely for warm weather
  • IKEA lighting in both rooms
  • Sleep Sheep (2)
  • A really great storytime chair…will look that one up for y’all
  • Crane Penguin humidifier – awesome until it started making noises, but then again we ran it for about 3 months straight
  • DeLonghi oil radiator – super quiet, programmable, relatively safe for a kids’ room, efficient way to heat at night in the winter

  • Ergo Organic baby carrier – *if shopping for the infant insert, be sure to select newer Heart2Heart model* – also consider Boba Baby Carrier – like Ergo with foot straps.
  • Bugaboo Bee single stroller – works fantastically for my largely urban strolling
  • Maclaren Twin Techno double stroller – nice and compact for a side-by-side, but I might choose differently now…
  • Go Go Kidz Travelmate – puts your car seat on wheels for air travel etc.
  • Maxi-Cosi Mico infant bucket and Priori convertible car seats
  • Sunshine Kids Radian line convertible car seats
  • Skip Hop Via Messenger diaper bag

  • Cloth diapers: Fuzzi Bunz (infant), BumGenius (expands to fit sizes M+)
  • Disposables: Tried ’em all.  Sticking to Seventh Generation, mostly.  Also: Huggies Overnights
  • Wipes: Seventh Generation or Kroger Comforts
  • Skip Hop Pronto changing pad for on-the-go
  • Diaper Champ – and my big tip on this topic is to flush the solids whenever possible
  • IKEA potty
  • Baby Bjorn seat reducer
  • Training Unders from Hanna Andersson – a steep $20 for 3, but more absorbent than the Gerber 3-pak (or, make your own from cloth diaper inserts and regular underwear)

PLAYING (at the moment – ages 2.5 and 1yr)

  • Calafant Tree House
  • Fisher Price Little People Dollhouse
  • Haba Ball Track Roll ‘n Roll ‘n Roll
  • Melissa & Doug bead maze
  • Melissa & Doug sushi set
  • Crayola washable crayons, markers, sidewalk chalk
  • Fisher Price Rainforest Jumparoo (borrowed)
  • A growing collection of Schleich animal figurines
  • WH Swiss Educo French Kitchen
  • “Skeletal Ball” = = Oball by Rhino Toys (thanks, Debbie!)
  • Remo Kids 10″ Tom Tom drum
  • A professional-grade blues harmonica, tambourine, and shakers
  • Melissa & Doug learning clock
  • Wooden Alphabet Blocks & Wagon
  • Yamaha Clavinova CLP-170 (mommy’s toy, but kids love to play it)
  • Plan Toys sorting schoolbus
  • My First Puzzles (i.e Eric Carle bug puzzle)
  • A weird LED top that spins indefinitely and has lights from China that my dad got on eBay – we watched it spin for an hour straight the other night…
  • Kettler Happy Frog Tricycle
  • Books, books and more books.  (see for some great recommendations)

Great list! My wee ones (3+ and 7 months) have enjoyed many of the same items (esp. that Rainforest Jumparoo ;)). I believe the “skeletal ball” is an Oball by Rhino Toys:

and would you believe we have not one but two of those weird LED tops?? I’m sure it’s the same thing – endless hours of entertainment for both of my kids! I think Grandpa got ours at a hardware store somewhere…

Keep up the good work, fabulous blog!

I CANNOT tell you what a LIFESAVER this product is!!! We were loaded down with not only bags to check, but with the max number of carry-ons. It would not have been possible to get our special needs daughter and her HEAVY car seat through the Atlanta airport without the Travelmate! Our daughter loved the security of her car seat in that busy new environment, and it was a breeze to push or pull her!! With the quick release strap, going through security and boarding the plane were a snap as well!! I would DEFINITELY recommend this product to anyone travelling with a child who needs a car seat!!!

    • JHeff: I have read a good number of comments about most users of the boba not really ever using the foot rests. Looking at the videos I've seen, the back on
    • Mama GaGa: Oh, boo! Thanks for the manufacturing update - I will make note in the post. Cheers - MG
    • Cathy: I know this is a couple years old but I ran across this post and was so excited when you said the Boba was made in America - a big selling point for m
